Battle for Wesnoth
Has some similarities with TerraBellica

For the Glory
(sequel to Europa Universalis II)

King Arthur and
Total War series
strategy+battlefield tactics+rpg

1. Master of Magic
2. Civilization (original and all its sequels)
3. Disciples II and III

I love StarCraft 1 and 2 and WarCraft 1, 2, 3 but they are RTS and are very different than turn based strategy games.

There are definitely some high quality titles listed here. It is very refreshing to see a growing community where good taste and sound values are the norm rather than the exception.

My current favourites:

01. Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri: Alien Crossfire
02. Sid Meier's Colonization
03. Sid Meier's Civilization II: Multiplayer Gold Edition
04. Heroes of Might and Magic III: Complete
05. Crusader Kings
06. King of Dragon Pass
07. Victoria: Revolutions
08. Emperor of the Fading Suns
09. Command & Conquer: Red Alert - The Aftermath
10. Warlords III: Darklords Rising

The Alien Crossfire expansion I did not like so much for its new factions, but rather for the new features and game fixes that came with it. The same goes for Civ II Gold, it had some flaws, and I never played in multiplayer, but it did introduce scripted events, a huge improvement to the creation of custom scenarios (and that was really more than half the fun, the modding community was, and is, spectacular).

There are of course hundreds of good strategy games worth mentioning, but the ones listed above are the ones that immediately came to mind. Among those that did not quite make the list are Vikings: Fields of Conquest, Imperialism II: The Age of Exploration, SimIsle: Missions in the Rainforest, Voyages of Discovery, Dungeon Keeper Gold, Stellar Conquest III (mostly for nostalgia), Theme Park and Shogun: Total War - Warlords Edition.

I recently played Jagged Alliance 2 and would like to mention it as well, but truth to be told, it did strike me as more of a RPG than a strategy game. Still, excellent title all the same, I enjoyed it almost as much as I enjoyed Fallout back when it was new.

Battle For Wesnoth ftw! ^^ Besides being a great strategy game it also has a silly number of quality campaigns and is still getting new content. It has an online community aswell.

Though I don't play it anymore I used to really love the incredible Civ IV mod Fall From Heaven II. I cant recommend that game enough. Its much better then Civ IV itself. The campaigns they made never really worked for me but the sandbox mode is exceptional.

Sticking to TBS 'cause I love too many RTS to try and mix the two. Also because ranking RTS is hard since the rts interface has improved so much over the years (try playing the awesome myth II now and you'll be begging Bungie release a version with modern features).

1. Fall From Heaven II
2. Battle For Wesnoth <3
3. X-Com (or is this #1?)
4. Age of Wonders
5. Warlords IV
6. Warlords III (the interface really frustrates me when I try to play it now but I have such fond memories of this game)
7. Jagged Alliance 2
8. Disciples II
9. Final Fantasy Tactics
10. Galactic Civilizations

Also... Holy shit I just found out that Age of Wonders had mods. Guess I'll be playing that one again! ^^
