Krakens can be a very effective and easy way to get harder to obtain armor and spells and even gold and of course the kraken tenticals for potion brewing, so i figured id share the info i have gathered from hunting krakens and hope others would like to add some info as well.

first karma ... karma is of corse a limiting factor on how many ships you can have i would say the bare minimum you can kill a kraken with is 2 fireships and 1 cog thats only 27 karma though i reccomend at least 3 fireships and 1 cog as there is a lot less waiting involved for ap.

ships: ... first of all 1 cog is a Must i would even say get 2 if you can aford it they are the only ship i have found so far that can spot krakens from more then 1 square away the range seems to be 3 squares they can see them ...and because krakens have those nasty tenticals that can latch onto your ships and sink them if you dont kill them fast enough... spoting them before you get close is all most a Must.... also it reduces the waisted ap searching for them also the cogs got 10 ap and does about 33 damage a hit not to bad..... oh and they can carry your Phat Lewt!

Fireship: the fireship is your basic DPS ship when hunting krakens and is a must as they hit for anywhere between 90-120 damage a hit though they only have 8 ap thats why its effective for a cog to play out its roll as scout to minimise waisted ap moveing

Frigate: frigate does about the same damage as a cog to krakens but has 12 ap makeing them the second best damage ship for hunting krakens ...though still not recommended

Galleon: well ... it can carry stuff.... and does about the same damage as a cog... with less ap... not so useful... get an extra cog more effective and costs 3 karma less

Submarine: ... a joke... in kraken hunting a submarine is... useless although it says subs make good scouts... they can only see krakens from 1 square away .. and they have the Worst attack from 1 Square away if your useing it to hunt krakens this is a waist of 10 karma i dismantled my new sub it was so useless to me...

Battleship: ... i have not tested this ship yet sowwies ^^

Loot: most common things i seem to get are kraken tenticals and supersenceing scrolls also random level 3 items. rare but even more worth it items ive found are golden armor recipes (semi common) and portal scrolls (rare) Clone scrolls (rare) but ive only just started hunting so im sure much much more drop oh mostly i find recipes for the spells ove the actual scrolls

Ending: erm.. thats all hope i can save some people money/karma with this good luck... oh and what are you waiting for... thats some darn good loot!! (i just sold 3 portal scrolls for 1200 gold ^^)

oh.. also i reccomend 2 cogs because that way one can haul your loot back to town as the other is still searching for krakens so your DPS ships dont have any downtime further reducing waisted ap

2 Fireships+Cog seems a good scheme. At least if an unpredictable war starts suddenly you have something to throw into battle immediately.

However a more efficient scheme to have as a krakening flotilla is 5 Cogs.

1. 5 Cogs take almost same karma as 2 FS+1 Cog, but they cover a tremendous area of 20-25 tiles simultaneously if you make a chain of them. Efficient chain browsing is shown in the pic I attached.
2. Cogs have 10 AP, FSs - 8
3. With 5 Cogs you have 30 cargo spaces, and that fills up fast - krakens have upto 4 items. You can send away the ships for a couple of weeks and get back packed up with valuable stuff.
4. Cogs cost a lot less to produce.
5. Cogs can make ranged attacks. FSs have to be actually caught by krakens and if you don't attack in 24h it will sink them.

That's just from the top of my head.

interesting ill have to try this for sure but i still think fireships are better as cogs average attacks do around 33 damage where fireships hit average of 100 and ive seen them hit up to 120 though as low as 90 as well.... so i still think fireships maby more effective but i have 2 fireships ready to expire...so this could be fun =P

I enjoy kraken hunting, though only as a small time sport. It brngs in some good loot. I will have to try the 5 cog tactic. But as I notice the karma count for cogs, 5 cogs will cost 35 karma. @ FS and 1 Cog cost 17 karma. that is almost twice the karma count! and for some people, karma is not an abundant resource :( . I guess it really depends on how dedicated you are to kraken hunting.

I have only been Kraken hunting for 2 weeks with the 5 Cog method recommended by Admin.

I have received some VERY good advice from Admin since I started playing TB and I am sure I will get a lot more good advice because I am still learning. However I have not gained much good loot from the Krakens I have killed and think I have profited much more from Ork hunting. The only good thing I have gained are Tentacles which are also available on the market.

This is my 1st time Kraken hunting but I think if I do it again after my Cogs expire I may build a couple of FireShips and 1 or 2 cogs instead.

I would like to hear from other Kraken-Hunters who may be able to offer more advice and perhaps assure me that it is worth-while for gaining some good, rare & worthwhile loot if I persist.

I have only been hunting Kraken for three refresh cycles now using the 5 cog method. The visibility range and AP of the crafts makes it easy to locate Kraken swiftly. You only have one week to kill as many as you can if you waste time you’ll miss out on loot. Killing the Kraken though is a time eater with the five cog method. All of the cogs have to be arranged into position and then allowed time to regain full AP so that the beast can be killed in one blow. It is foolish to not kill it all at once since it regains HP as you regain AP.

As far as loot goes I have had some Kraken loaded with lvl 3 items, recipes, magic and of coarse tentacles. While others have given nothing but tentacles alone. (very few at that)

Nobody orcs not dropping so much and usefull drop as krakens. 5 cogs no bettter metod. Use groups: 2-3 fireshps and 1 cog. If you find 2-3 krakens near - you can use pentagram.

I do not understand what you mean. Is it if you find them near to shore so that the Mage can cast the spell?

If you use Pentagram do you also need Fireships or Cogs to kill the Kraken or can the Deamon kill it by himself?

Does a Demon have AP? Can he move closer to Krakens to kill them?
Can the Kraken capture or attack the Demon?
How long will a Demon last after the Pentagram spell is cast?

TOO many questions lol :)

I'm trying to slay my first kraken, and interestingly, my ensnared frigate ( the rest are cogs ) escapes day after day from being pulled under.

Might be due to the weakened state of the kraken post attacks?

Kraken sunk! Lotsa paella to be made today. Break out the cava! No dried and salted codfish in my fleet's stomach for once!
