Login every day + referrals + doing something for the game... these are only options to gain more karma.
Building empires is not about castles... its about teamplay.

You can get karma, awards (badges) and game objects by contributing to the game:
Bringing more people to the game (that is done automatically through a referral system, but if a forum or blog doesn't allow referral links we can evaluate the traffic source and add some karma for a direct link),
Finding bugs, misspells, cheats,
Helping newbies, writing guides or fantasy (back)stories, decscriptions, encyclopedia notes, quests, etc. building up the special atmosphere, spirit of the game.

Can players under Dark Aura get their Karma increased?

I'm afraid you cant.

But getting karma is not worth losing the protection.
The protection is way more useful than the karma...

Yeah I have to agree the tribute so far is nothing compared to the benefits (am at 4 gold 1 timber tax). I'm not sure if I can adjust to the double-time once Dark Aura is removed, so am upgrading my factories and roads like crazy!

Yeah. It is really tough to go on without the aura.
You need financial boosts to keep up with your current rate.
If you do ever decide to rid yourself from the Aura, make sure you do it when you have stored up enough resources to get your citadel upgraded to a Palace.

Even though I am a relatively new player with a lot to learn I totally agree.

I am on day 41 of Dark Aura protection and my next tribute will be 69 gold, 44 Timber, 44 Metal.

I know that a lot of players may disagree with me but I think it is well worth paying the tribute still as I am earning enough resources to pay the tribute, build every day, train troops every day, attack Orks to train my heroes & gain valuable items & res, and even build & destroy 1 building every day to get 'House Spirits' to use later in the game. I even managed to save enough gold to buy a few useful things at Market :)

The one thing I do not like about being in DA is that I can not play in the Arena... I am itching to get there & capture the well 8-)
