How long can you leave an item in a caravan unclaimed?

Will a caravan 'expire' after a certain amount of days?

I bought boots in the market which I will not need for a while. Will I lose them if I do not claim them soon?

The encyclopedia states "Warning! Items delivered by a caravan must be unloaded in 20 days from the moment they arrive, otherwise they will be lost. "
